A vacation to Hawaii has a special allure thanks to its beautiful scenery, year-round warm weather and colourful culture. Those seeking to enhance their beach experience will find plenty on offer, from adventure sports to shopping and sightseeing. Small enough to drive around in a day, the island of Oahu is the starting point for most visitors to Hawaii, being the location of the capital Honolulu and its international airport. While Honolulu has a downtown business district, the ubiquitous Chinatown and residential areas, some outrageously expensive, it is Waikiki Beach to which most visitors are drawn. You can learn to surf, ride a wave on an outrigger canoe or simply relax and enjoy the buzz. A number of schools offer lessons, but if you want to watch the pros in action, head to the beaches on Oahu’s north shore.
