Planting bulbs

Bulbs come in a whole range of types. True bulbs (tulips), corms (crocus), rhizomes (bearded iris), tubers (begonias) and tuberous roots (dahlias).  The first step is to identify which is which and the second step is to figure out how each of these different bulb types likes to be planted. What depth? What kind of soil? Oh and the big question – which side is up? (And do you know how to find out which is up?)
