Perhaps the best ways to increase metabolism are by eating several small meals per day instead of two or three large meals, followed by light exercise. This keeps the blood flowing and the body constantly burning the new calories it brings in. If you eat a few large meals after periods of fasting, your body will want to hold on to every calorie it brings in. Also, as your body begins to develop more muscle than fat, you will find that you will even burn calories when at rest to sustain your body structure. One additional tip is to eat healthier foods and avoid sugary snacks that are often high in fat and have little to no nutritional value.
