Compare Mortgages Before Committing

I have a sister that has worked as a mortgage broker for a number of years. She has really been affected by fallout from the sub prime mortgages that we being approved until recently. She advised my husband and I to repair our credit prior to purchasing home. She told us she could find someone that would approve our mortgage but since we were her family she couldn’t do so in good conscience. We went ahead and signed the first mortgage that was approved. We are in a big mess now. The rate has adjusted and my wife has lost her job. Our savings account is dwindling. We need to find a way to refinance this into a fixed rate mortgage with a lower payment if we are to have any hope of remaining in our home.
