A Response To “Daily”

I’m a small business advice business owner, and for me to Groupon or not to Groupon is not about making money – it’s about exposure. My small business is not an online business, it is a local brick-and-mortar affair. However, unlike the great majority of small businesses, I have a global clientele because I work in the vacation industry. So in a world of huge resorts and massive sums spent on advertising, how does the little guy like me compete? Well, we have to hitch our wagon to someone else’s bigger star. In my case I found that buying ads in the paper, Facebook, and all those sites like Craigslist was worse than useless. All I got were scams. So I got together with a really big company and offered my places for less than the competition, and it has worked. Sure, the company takes a small cut. I’m willing to live with that. Because the Marriot and the five-star resorts on my street would wipe me out otherwise. I’m sure it’s the same for a lot of businesses that use deal sites. It’s all about eyeballs and scale.
