The best ways of increasing fuel economy

I have a neighbor who is always looking at ways to save money and just recently he asked me if I knew of any good ways of increasing fuel economy because he was finding it difficult to pay the new higher gas prices that seem to be with us now for good. He has a pretty old car, so I’m guessing that the fuel economy is naturally not that great, but I told him that if he made some changes to his driving style, such as not accelerating when he didn’t need to, along with making a few other changes such as not using the air-conditioning is much and making sure that his engine was properly serviced, he should see some really nice improvements. Much to his credit he took my advice and just recently he told me that his fuel bills have been cut substantially, and he just wishes that he had asked my advice much earlier.
